Summary: Simpletech needs better QA
Comment: SimpleTech is not winning points for well designed hardware. This is the 2nd (and last product) I will be buying from them. Although they stand behind their products and have good warrenty support, the best support is when you NEVER need it.
I'm on my 2nd warranty replacement drive in one year. The first drive actually held up for about 8 months, and then crashed. The first replacement lasted about 2 weeks. The 2nd replacement started to fail in about a month, but I found that reformatting the drive to NTFS from FAT32 seems to have made it work better.
UPDATE - I've had this drive for a year. In that time it has been replaced under warranty twice. Now the drive is failing again.

Summary: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS ITEM!
Comment: I must say, after reading the reveiws on this item, mine actually lasted me over a year. I wish I would have read these reviews before I bought it. Just like everyone else, The light comes on but knowone is home. Doesnt work anymore. I lost lots of important files because I depended on it. Well, I learned my lesson. You get what you pay for!

Summary: Poor quality product despite great concept
Comment: if you shop around you can find this product for $10. There's a reason for this - the durability and reliability of this product is abysmal. Within one week of owning, the drive has started to fail - when my portable 2.5" has surivived transatlantic flights - this cant survive the Chicago El.
Don't waste your time with this product - buy a 2.5" drive with a decent enclosure and save yourself time, effort and data

Summary: Great Product!!
Comment: I'm the type of person who see's a movie regardless of the terrible review's from the critic. As well as this product selection. I chose this product based on price and necessity of a portable. I know there are a number of drives out there. I am familiar with SimpleTech and knowing they stand behind their product I bought one. Right out of the box it ran fine, and has been ever since. This is my second drive product from SimpleTech, I'm sure there will be a third.

Summary: Dont buy this drive!!!
Comment: I would give it 'O'! stars if I could. I had it less then a month, carried it home in my pocket from school one night with all my school files so i wouldnt have to lug my laptop home thaat one night. Tried to open it and had the same problem others have mentioned here. If it is going to hve a rotating disk it should have a beefer housing to protect it.
